Casual Patio
When cracking your head to think of the best way to really enjoy the outdoors, many homemakers or homeowners feel a casual patio is the best. A patio is a paved outdoor area created for the purposes of relaxation and recreation. Many homeowners use their patio area for grilling and dining outdoors, entertaining, lounging and more. If you have a family with children the patio is a great place for the adults to relax while the children play in the yard. There are many ways to make your patio a space you can call your own. The first step, if you don't already have one, is to choose the type of foundation you prefer.
Patios can be paved with brick, stone or even cement. The goal in mind is a smooth, hard surface on which outdoor cooking appliances and outdoor furniture can be arranged. The patio is the perfect place for a container garden because the containers sit so nicely on the hard surface. You might also want to consider surrounding your patio area with a border of plants and/or flowers planted in the grass. There are many different gardening and landscaping options available when building a patio or updating an existing one.
One way to make your patio a relaxing haven is with comfortable furniture. Patio furniture is made to stand up to harsh weather conditions. It comes in aluminum, wrought iron and wood. While wicker is a popular material, it is best suited to sun porches and indoor enclosures. You can find some wicker pieces that feature other materials for added stability and weight. Cushions should be comfortable, weather resistant and a match to your personal style preference. There are cushions and umbrella fabrics for every style from down home country to elegant Spanish villa.
Adding elemental features to your patio area can add to the relaxation factor. A balanced mix of accessories can make your casual patio a serene place to be. For example, a trio of candles on the table add the element of fire while a nearby koi pond, birdbath or fountain can add the element of water. As air and earth are all around you when you are outdoors these natural elements do not need to be introduced. The result is a patio in which you can truly feel comfortable. You might also want to add soothing sound with gently tinkling wind chimes hung from a shepherd's hook or other nearby hook. In any case the best patio is one where you feel right at home.
